MARSEILLE, FRA-(20-10-2002) The Pro-Am Cup is now closing on the brilliant victory of team K-Challenge, this time with Thierry Peponnet and François Brenac leading the boat : an impeccable navigation, a team with a perfect harmony, and of course the honour of a second victory in the same week for the team after the One Ton Cup : they can’t stop any more !
The last race also confirmed in the general placing the second place for Nantes Saint-Nazaire, the third position for Vasco Vascotto, the 4th for Asterix, also #1 (and far ahead !) in the amateurs placing. This team coming from England has been very surprising, and intend to come back next year with an even better level.
Then, K-Challenge 1 and Ville d’Antibes NEC only have one point of difference with Asterix for the 5th and 6th place.
So the race has been once again very tight today for the top of the crews, Marseille with Dimitri Deruelle at helm finishes in the last regatta with a fabulous victory at home : after an excellent start, they stayed at the top of the race till the end , followed very closely by Asterix, Vasco Vascotto, K-Challenge 2 and Nantes Saint-Nazaire, who is by the way becoming French Mumm 30 champion after the final results of this Pro-Am Cup.
The conclusion of the 2002 edition is excellent, the high level of the competition, the number of participants and the atmosphere on the docks have once again proved the passion of the participants – professionals and amateurs – for this regatta, who also took advantage of a nice weather at the end of the sailing season, allowing them to show all their talents on water.
See you next year for the new edition from the 15th till 19th October 2003.
The Pro-Am Cup was created in 1997 by K-Yachting International. This regatta allows amateur skippers to fight equally with the world top sailors. The race gathers the Mumm 30 owners (9m length regatta monotype) and professional skippers especially invited and selected. Loïck Peyron, Franck Cammas, Bertrand Pacé, Jochen Schumann are part of the “stars“ who already came for the challenge.
The Pro-Am Cup shall be governed by the ISAF (International Sailing Federation) sailing rules, as well as the French Mumm 30 Class rules.
2 general placings will be produced : the “Pro-Am Cup” one for all the boats registered in the regatta, and the “Amateur” one for all the boats which has been given this status by K-Yachting International.
